Okanagan Marathon race results

The results are in from Sunday’s BMO Okanagan Marathon.

The event consisted of several different races, all of which left from Kelowna’s City Park early Sunday morning.

The winner of the full 42.2K marathon was Calgary’s Brent Pickerl, who finished with a time of 2:51:54. The first Okanagan resident across the line came in second overall. Steve Russell of Vernon crossed the line with a time of 2:54:08. The third place finisher was Vancouver resident Colin Miller, who finished at a time of 2:56:19. Penticton’s Justin Birks was fourth with a time of 2:59: 23.

The first woman to finish the full marathon was Kellie Young of Fort Saskatchewan, who finished with a time of 3:07: 52. The first woman from the Okanagan to cross the line was Kelowna’s Cailla Patterson, who finished with a time of 3:15: 50.

In all, more than 560 runners took part in the full marathon. The half marathon was undertaken by close to 1,500 racers.

The first across the line for the 21K half marathon was Penticton’s Jeff Symonds with a time of 1:10:17. Other local finishers included Sergio Pio of Penticton who came in fifth with a time of 1:18:06 and the first woman across the line, who came in eighth overall with a time of 1:22:11 was Kelowna resident Christy Lovig.

In the 10K race, Kelowna dominated the top ten, with seven of the top ten finishers coming from Kelowna.

First across the line was Kelowna’s Graham Hood with a time of 34:08. Second was Kelowna’s Andrew Savage with a time of 35:17 and rounding out the top three was Glenn Leer at a time of 35:51.

The first woman across the 10K line was Kelowna’s Victoria Frost who came in 23rd overall at a time of 43:38. The second woman was Salmon Arm resident Glynis Sim, who finished 26th overall with a time of 44:18.
