Vandalism breaks Friendly Bus

A broken window had a trickle down effect for some Armstrong war veterans Saturday.

Kelowna resident Kerri Green was planning to drive the group of vets from the Armstrong Legion to the starting point for the Armstrong IPE parade Saturday.

However, a broken window-door forced her to cancel.

Green runs a business called the Friendly Bus, which consists of a 21-passenger bus that she uses to take seniors on sight-seeing trips around the Kelowna area.

She says while taking a group of seniors to the IPE earlier this week she was contacted by the Armstrong Chamber of Commerce.

“They said they were having a hard time finding a way of getting the war vets to the parade and asked if I could drive them, they would pay for my gas to get to and from Kelowna and I'd get to be in the parade with them,” says Green.

She says during her morning inspection of the bus, she found the glass sliding front door smashed.

“It looked like it was broken with a rock. I can't drive anyone anywhere with a broken front door.”

Green says because of the long weekend, all the area glass shops are closed so she won't be able to get the door fixed until Tuesday.

She says the vets were able to get a ride to the parade with the local Shriners.
