Police, fire, and Search and Rescue boats scoured the lake until midnight last night searching for a Kelowna man.
Earlier in the evening the 41-year-old man and his wife had left the west shore of Okanagan Lake and were boating to the other side.
At 7 p.m. they were halfway across when the man stopped the boat and jumped in the water for a swim, using a pool flotation toy for buoyancy. At one point, the man lost his grip on the flotation toy and called to his wife for help. She jumped in to help him, but was unable to assist the man, who disappeared from view.
Another boat came by to assist within minutes but the driver, who jumped into the water to search, was unable to spot the man.
A surface search of the area turned up nothing. Today will see emergency boats resuming search efforts, along with the RCMP Air 3 helicopter and the RCMP's dive team.
Police continue to appeal to boaters to please keep life jackets visible, not hidden away in compartments while boating, as they are easier to locate should a panic situation arise.
It was just last month another Kelowna man drowned while boating on Okanagan Lake.
His body has not been recovered.
