It will be a cherry of a season for Okanagan fruit growers.
BC Fruit Growers’ Association President Joe Sardinha, says the recent warm weather has been very good for the local cherry crops.
“This year, following what has been a great harvest period for cherry growers in the Okanagan, local and Canadian consumers can expect a mouth-watering treat as we start what will be an abundant season of ripe and luscious BC cherries,” says Sardinha.
He says the trees have shown a very good bloom and the crops’ conditions were better than expected.
“I am pleased to say that growers and pickers coming to the Okanagan from Quebec and Mexico can look forward to great returns this year. Moreover, consumers and tourists to the Valley will be able to enjoy our nutritious and home grown cherries.”
Sardinha says the Okanagan Valley has one of the latest cherry seasons in North America, extending from the third week of June into mid-to-late August.
