During Canada Day Festivities on Wednesday July 1, there will be a number of road and parking restrictions in the downtown core.
Drivers are asked to obey traffic control personnel at all times for the safety of the large number of pedestrians expected.
Starting at 6 a.m., Water Street from Cawston Avenue to Sunset Drive will be closed to vehicle traffic.
Parking will also be unavailable in these locations:
- Water Street, between Leon Avenue and Sunset Drive,
- Bernard Avenue, in front of Kerry Park,
- Mill Street parking lot,
- Dolphins parking lot.
The RCMP will be using the Kerry Park stalls and the Mill Street parking lot as a marshalling area.
During the evening of July 1, RCMP, bylaw officers and traffic control personnel will implement a traffic control plan that might include additional road closures and parking restrictions as needed in the downtown core.
Fireworks are expected to take place at 10:30 p.m., weather permitting. Knox Mountain Drive will close to vehicles at 8 p.m. on July 1, however pedestrians will have full access to the park until 11 p.m. Knox Mountain Drive will re-open Thursday July 2 at 6 a.m.
Additional bus service will be added to the regular holiday schedule to allow residents to take transit to the downtown Canada Day festivities. Buses will be at the Queensway Station for return trips after the fireworks. Regular fares apply.
