Patrick Chagnon has been in jail for nearly nine months, awaiting trial in the death of cyclist John Patrick James Robinson.

Tuesday, 28-year-old Chagnon was sentenced to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death.

The Lake Country native was given two-for-one credit for time served and was set free. He has also been prohibited from driving for five years.

Robinson, 55, died as a result of injuries he sustained when hit by a car while riding across Highway 33 at Prior Road.

Chagnon fled the scene and was apprehended a few blocks away.

He was charged with driving while prohibited, criminal negligence causing death and leaving the scene of an accident.
