Sally Ann desperate for volunteers

The Salvation Army is putting out a plea for volunteers to man the organization's Christmas Kettles.

The annual campaign is underway and Major Les Burrows says they are in desperate need of people to stand at the kettles this year.

"We have 21 kettle locations available," says Burrows.

"Without volunteers, the kettles cannot be put out and if the kettles are not out, we won't reach our financial requirements."

The Christmas Kettle Campaign target is $205,000 this year.

Burrows says people are needed to stand at a kettle for at least a one hour shift.

"We need volunteers who love people and enjoy smiling and saying Merry Christmas."

Last year's target was $185,000 and Burrows says, despite some anxious moments, people came through to help the Salvation Army reach its target.

Despite the tough economic times, Burrows believes the goal will be reached again this year.

"I am optimistic people will come through. Even if things are tight, most people realize they have more than someone else. Christmas is about giving and people do get in the spirit."

Burrows adds the money raised through the kettle and mail-in campaigns helps individuals and families, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year as well.
