Doing a good deed could result in some free travel.

The City of Kelowna is again encouraging residents to nominate neighbours or residents who help shovel driveways and sidewalks this winter. One nominee will be rewarded with a travel voucher.

“The Snow Buster Program is about recognizing residents who help the community by clearing snow without being asked or expecting thanks,” says Dale Beaudry, Transportation Services Manager.

"We hope their example inspires others to lend a helping hand to seniors and other disabled residents around Kelowna."

He says simply by shovelling a walkway, residents enable seniors or less-mobile neighbours to maintain their freedom and prevent possible injuries from slipping on unclear pavement.

“Statistics show that over half of senior’s falls occur outdoors. Shovelling snow is more than an in-kind service or a chore, it’s also good exercise. As one past nominee remarked, shovelling the snow for his neighbour helps keep him active throughout the winter months.”

Snow Buster nominees will be entered in a draw to win a $500 travel voucher at the end of the season.
