Local Olympian expecting baby

An Okanagan Olympian will be adding another title to his name, but it will take about nine months to arrive.

Ross Rebagliati, the first person to ever win a gold medal in Olympic snow boarding, is expecting his first child with wife, Alexandra.

“The doctor told us the baby is healthy which is what we were hoping for. The baby was moving around non-stop during the ultrasound. We could see the baby’s nose and little toes. It is an amazing thing to see. I can’t wait to be a father,” says Rebagliati.

He says he won’t push his child into anything.

“But if he wants to hits the slopes I’ll definitely be the first one to take him. It will be great to have our baby present for the 2010 Winter Olympics in my hometown of Vancouver/Whistler.”

After competing in the 1998 Olympics, Regagliati won the first gold medal in the sport of snowboarding, only to have it taken away after testing positive for marijuana.

He appealed the decision and his medal was returned. He is currently the director of the Snowboard and Ski Operations for Kelowna Mountain and the founder/coach of Rebagliati Alpine Snowboard Training Academy camps, held in Canada and Italy.

He and Alexandra married in 2004 after dating for a month. This will be the first child for both of them.
