Ballet Kelowna welcomes winter with invigorating mixed program

Ballet Kelowna 'Reflections'

Madison Erhardt

Ballet Kelowna continues its 20th anniversary season with a mixed program, Reflections, at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Reflections is a collection of four short works and offers audiences a mix of thought-provoking premieres and returning audience favourites. The program includes two new commissions including (INNER) Beings from Esie Mensah.

"The piece is actually about the emotional baggage that we carry as people. Sometimes I think that we don't pay enough attention to the weight that it actually has in our lives, and so this is something that I wanted to explore. It was originally formed from a concept of a solo that I did."

This is the first time Mensah has worked with Ballet Kelowna.

She works at Canada's National Ballet as a teacher in Afro Fusion.

"[It is] a fusion of many styles... a foundation of traditional and contemporary West African with modern Latin, Caribbean and urban styles of dance."

Mensah will be working with Ballet Kelowna for a total of three weeks.

The performance will take place on February 17 and 18 at 7:30 p..m.

Tickets and more information is available here.
