Leases for Yacht Club & BMX track

The City of Kelowna is set to enter into new lease agreements with the Yacht Club and the Kelowna BMX Club.

City Council will be presented with information to approve both leases, at a rate of $1 per year for a term of five years.

The Yacht Club Clubhouse lease renewal comes as the club looks at building a new facility.

"The development of this agreement is the first of four agreements as the City moves forward with the development of Stuart Park and the Kelowna Yacht Club moves forward with their desire to build a new clubhouse," says City Property Manager, Ron Forbes.

He says the lease gives the city and the Yacht Club time to plan for a new location for the building, since the current structure is not part of the Stuart Park Plan.

Forbes says the other three agreements will centre around current moorage space, moorage expansion and a long-term agreement for the Clubhouse once a final location has been determined.

Meantime, Forbes says the Kelowna BMX Club has operated the track in Rutland since its construction.

"This year, the club contributed 50 per cent of the funds needed to put a fence around the track. The fence provides security and allows for the track to be closed should unsafe track conditions exist as well as closing the track to prevent after hours use and reduce vandalism."

Both leases will expire in 2013.
