Car stolen from 87-year-old vet

The victim of an auto theft is asking for the public to help him get his car back.

When thieves made off with the Honda Accord belonging to an 87-year-old Winfield man, they weren’t just stealing from him, they were stealing from his disabled 82-year-old wife as well.

Sergeant Tim Shields says the man had parked his car in front of his Reimche Road home Saturday morning before going back into his home to help his wife into the car to go for a drive.

“As he helped her through the door, he saw that his car was gone. The man had no way of knowing that just minutes before the theft of his car, a stolen white 2001 Ford F250 was traveling south on Highway 97 at a high rate of speed. The male driver lost control of the stolen truck, skidded into oncoming traffic and narrowly missed a head-on collision before crashing off the highway near Woodsdale Road,” says Shields.

He says the truck had been stolen from Vernon, and a male and female ran from the scene.

“A witness spotted the same male and female suspects stealing the Honda Accord on Reimche Road. A police dog was called to the scene of the crash, but the track was lost at the scene of the stolen Honda.”

Shields says the owner of the Honda has lived in Winfield since 1937.

“He served five years in the Canadian Army overseas during the war and has veterans licence plates on his car. The man has lived with his wife in the same home since 1950 and has never been the victim of any type of theft.”

“Both elderly victims of this theft are extremely distraught by the event, and are asking for help from the public to get their car back. The vehicle is a 2001 grey Honda Accord with a disabled sign on the visor.”

The driver of the stolen car is described as a white male in his twenties wearing a grey hoodie with a fur lined hood. He is six feet tall with a shaved head.

The passenger is a white female with dirty blonde hair/brown hair wearing a purple shirt and black spandex pants. She has a large tattoo across her abdomen.
