Kelowna RCMP defuse tense situation at Banks Road Walmart

Kelowna RCMP responded to a disturbance just inside the front entrance of the Walmart on Banks Rd. on Thursday afternoon.

Frontline officers responded to a report of a distraught male just before 2 p.m. in the 1500-block of Banks Rd. to find an evolving situation and a man threatening to harm himself.

Officers responded quickly and called in support from emergency medical and fire crews.

A 27-year-old man who had been experiencing a mental health crisis was apprehended and taken to hospital for medical assessment and care.
