Vernon teen suffered non life-threatening injuries in rollover

Speed factor in rollover

Kelowna RCMP say a vehicle involved in a crash on the Gillard Creek Forest Service Road Wednesday evening had been spotted driving erratically prior to the collision.

Witnesses spotted the vehicle heading south on Lakeshore Road prior to going down an embankment.

One witness told Castanet News the Subaru Outback came precariously close to striking a pedestrian and hitting other vehicles as it blew through a red light on Lakeshore prior to the collision.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the vehicle rolled down an embankment near the four kilometre mark of the Gillard Creek Forest Service Road.

A 19-year-old Vernon man was found near the vehicle, suffering non life-threatening injuries. Fire department personnel conducted a rope rescue to get the man to safety before he was transported to hospital.

A second occupant was found walking away from the crash site. He was not injured.

RCMP say speed was likely a factor in the crash.
