City of Kelowna buys property north of Rotary Beach

Public lakefront expands

The City of Kelowna has purchased a lakefront property north of Rotary Beach for $2.7 million.

The 0.4-acre property, which is located at 3676 Lakeshore Rd., will allow the city to expand Rotary Beach Park and get closer to creating continuous public beach access between Rotary and Gyro beaches.

“This property is one of the last significant obstacles for continued waterfront access between Boyce-Gyro Beach Park and Rotary Beach Park, so it’s an important acquisition at a reasonable cost for waterfront property,” Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran said in a press release.

The city’s official community plan allows it to acquire waterfront property whenever feasible.

There are now more than 10 kilometres of public beachfront property in Kelowna, including municipal, regional and provincial land holdings.
