While summer doesn't officially come to a close until Monday, it was feeling a lot like winter inside the Kelowna Curling Club Saturday at the annual Canadian Ski Patrol Winter Sport Swap.
The annual event dates back decades, and raises funds for Canadian Ski Patrols' safety services on local mountains.
“I've been with ski patrol for 16 years now, and it was going long, long before that,” said Derek Bumstead, ski swap manager.
On Friday, those looking to sell their used equipment, and stores looking to get rid of last year's stock, brought in their gear for consignment. Canadian Ski Patrol takes 20 per cent of sales for commission.
“This is the main fundraiser for Canadian Ski Patrol in the Ogopogo zone, which is the Central Okanagan, and there are tens of thousands of dollars that go towards safety services from our commissions at this event,” Bumstead said.
“Canadian Ski Patrol is a national organization that provides first aid services and safety services on ski mountains across the country.”
The doors opened for sales at 9 a.m., but hundreds of people had lined up outside the Kelowna Curling Club prior to that, eager to get first dibs on the deals.
Big White was also on hand selling season passes.
Sales run until 5 p.m. Saturday, and will continue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
