Rutland ready to party

The Victoria Day long weekend means one thing in Rutland – May Days are back.

Kelowna's longest-running family festival returns Friday through Sunday at the Rutland Centennial Park.

Event hours are 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Rutland May Days is celebrating its 60th year, and of course, the parade is back on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. There will also be a midway, live entertainment, Big West Wrestling action, and a May Days market.

All the fun means there will be road closures to accommodate the parade and fair.

Hartman Road from the YMCA parking lot access to Hemlock Road will be closed from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, as the mustering area for parade participants. The parade will move along Rutland Road between McCurdy Road and Highway 33, with rolling road closures from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The Roxby parking lot will be closed for the midway from Tuesday through Monday.

Bus stops will also be out of service for the parade. There will also be detours on the No. 14 Black Mountain, No. 10 North Rutland, No. 8 University and No. 11 South Rutland routes.

Visitors are urged to carpool, walk or cycle to avoid congestion.
