Local woman vies for cover

A Lake Country woman is hoping to win the Okanagan's support as she strives to become Maxim Canada's cover girl.

Jessica Jewels took on the challenge of getting in shape five years ago, when she decided she wanted to be a fitness role model for her children.

"I'm super excited. I've always been into modelling and fitness," Jewels said. "I am a mom, and I really didn't start my transformation until 2014, when I realized that I wanted to love my own body."

Jewels says in spite of being in great shape, she doesn't restrict her diet too harshly. She says she enjoys the food and wine the Okanagan has to offer, and would like to become a role model for other women who are trying to be the best versions of themselves.

"I'm turning 42 this year, and I'm in the best shape I've ever been in," she said.

Jewels was hand picked by Maxim editors after she sent in her photographs.

"I'm pretty excited to see how far I can get. I've submitted some of the modelling shoot photos I've taken, and I'd really like the community's support."

If she wins the cover, she will also earn $10,000. Voting starts May 2.
