Near-record temperatures

It almost felt like spring this past weekend in the Okanagan.

The sun shone, and thermometers nudged up to almost 9 C, at a time that is usually the coldest of the year.

It wasn't quite a warm weather record, but according to Environment Canada, it came pretty close.

''Saturday was the fourth nicest Jan. 19th on record. On Saturday, it reached 8.6 degrees, and the record is 9.4 degrees set in 1900," said meteorologist Carmen Hartt.

And this week will see continued mild weather and above-freezing temperatures, if not quite the balmy treat offered up on the weekend.

Today's high should peak at 1 C, with a mix of sun and cloud. Snow is expected this evening with lows to -5 C.

Tuesday should be mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries in the morning and a high of 1 C.

Sunshine is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with highs of 1 C.

But it warms back up a bit on Friday, with a forecast high of 5 C, leading into an overcast weekend with temps of about 4 degrees.
