Chong visit delayed

Legendary stoner Tommy Chong will not be in Kelowna as scheduled to celebrate the legalization of cannabis in Canada.

Chong, 80, was scheduled to appear at a legalization party Wednesday, hosted by Diablo Nutrients and Quick Grow Kelowna.

Officials with the company say Chong lost his passport, delaying his trip by a few days.

His passport will be replaced in the next few days, and he is expected to arrive for an event Friday.

He'll be at Quick Grow from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday.


Celebrity toker actor Tommy Chong will be the special guest at a legalization party hosted by Diablo Nutrients and Quick Grow Kelowna.

Chong is a writer, director, musician and cannabis rights activist who is known for his marijuana-themed Cheech and Chong comedy.

He will be special guest at the Oct. 17 event at Quick Grow.

Chong co-wrote and performed on many Cheech & Chong albums and appeared in the Cheech and Chong movies with comedy partner Cheech Marin.

"It's incredible. We never thought we would get such a big star at such a small store for such a big day," said Darrl and Chrissy Borsato, owners of Quick Grow and Diablo Nutrients.

The legalization party kicks off at 11 a.m. and goes till 3 p.m.

"It's a free event, and it is open to everybody. Tommy will be doing a meet and greet. There will also be giveaways, food trucks and music," Borsato said.
