Fuhr acclaimed for 2nd run

The road has been paved for Stephen Fuhr to seek a second term as MP in the Kelowna-Lake Country riding.

The local Liberal riding association said Tuesday Fuhr went unopposed for the party's nomination and has been acclaimed as the candidate in the next federal election, expected in October of 2019.

Fuhr became the first Liberal in nearly 50 years to win in Kelowna-Lake Country when he upset Conservative incumbent Ron Cannan in 2015.

In a statement, Fuhr said he is confident running on his record.

He says he's happy with the level of federal visibility and investment in the riding, and says Ottawa is paying attention after holding Pacific and National Caucus meetings within the riding.

He points to the reopening of a Veterans Affairs office in Kelowna, investments in water infrastructure, UBCO and Okanagan College, the Okanagan Rail Trail, invasive species prevention and a new community centre in Lake Country.

The Conservatives will elect their candidate later this year. Businesswoman Renee Wasylyk and Kelowna city councillor Tracy Gray are seeking that nomination.
