Seeking new school name

Want to name a school?

The Central Okanagan School District is looking for input on a name for a new middle school in Lake Country.

The school will serve students in Grades 6 to 8,. Construction is expected to begin next spring.

"The name will reflect the area and its residents, which will increase the community's sense of ownership and identification with the school,” said Moyra Baxter, school board chair.

Supt. Kevin Kaardal says its important to name a new school early on.

"Having a permanent name in place during construction helps us plan with purpose and supports the development of a vision to meet the needs of every learner who will benefit from the new school,” Kaardal said.

A similar middle school naming campaign in Kelowna last year produced a less-than-desirable result.

The public can submit their suggestions online, or in writing to the school board office at 1040 Hollywood Rd. South, in Kelowna.
