No slide on highway

UPDATE: 1:35 p.m.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is denying claims of another landslide on Highway 33 in the Joe Rich area.

Scott Lain, area manager for MoTI told Castanet claims of a slide are false.

"There was no slide," he said.

Lain says the highway around the hairpin is back to single-lane alternating traffic as part of the construction process.

ORIGINAL STORY: 12:10 p.m.

Highway 33 is back to single-lane, alternating traffic after another landslide east of Kelowna in Joe Rich.

The highway only fully reopened on June 8, after weeks of rock work at the hairpin, near Heartland Ranch.

Shelley Duke of the Joe Rich Road Improvement Committee says crews have had to excavate under the highway, and half the pavement is gone.

It's expected the route will be reduced to piloted, single-lane traffic 24 hours a day until next week.
