Shady thieves on camera

Alanna Kelly

A daytime robbery at a small Kelowna business has left the owner saying the thieves need to be held accountable.

Robbers distracted an employee working at Wink I Wear Optical Boutique and made off with two pairs of prescription glasses on May 9.

A surveillance video shared on Facebook has been viewed more than 12,000 times.

Employees say a man and woman entered the store and started trying on glasses while shoving two pairs into the woman’s purse.

“I looked right up, and she was halfway across the parking lot already. Nobody leaves that fast,” said employee Sharlene Perry. “I turned the corner and noticed the frame was missing.”

Store owner Laura Draycott said the robbery hurts.

“We are not giant corporations. This is my livelihood, this is where I make my living,” she said.

“They are completely unaware of how it affects a business like this."

RCMP are investigating.

“You know darn well they have done this before,” said Perry. “They are probably hitting other businesses as well.”

Draycott hopes someone will recognize the pair, and they will be punished.
