Dust off the cowboy boots

Get out your cowboy boots and get ready to rock the night away to country music in true Okanagan fashion.

Kelowna is getting its own country music festival, Denim on the Diamond.

The event will take place Sept. 1 at King Stadium, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., showcasing the Okanagan’s best artists and local businesses.

“There is an opportunity and a need for an event that is produced by locals, for locals and that supports local business,” said organizer Mitch Carefoot.

“What we have in mind is bringing all these different businesses from around the Okanagan to Kelowna and over the next few years build something we are proud of (that) is a representation of Kelowna and what we love to do.”

Mayor Colin Basran said King Stadium used to be a community hub.

“I am really excited about the fact that this place has so much history – and we are going to write a few more chapters,” said Basran.

The headliner for Denim on the Diamond will be Kelowna’s Chad Brownlee.

“Chad has spent time on the diamond, and his dad used to be a ball umpire here,” said Carefoot.

CCMA Rising Star nominated artist Jojo Mason, Devon Coyote, Ben Klick, and Tiger Moon round out the line up.

Covering the food front will be Surfside California & Crasian and Dunnenzies. Local brew pub BNA is partnering with the concert, along with Kitsch Winery, Dirty Laundry Winery and B.C. Tree Fruits.

Early bird tickets will be available online at www.denimonthediamond.com starting Wednesday.
