Sweeping, pothole delays

With twice the usual amount of sand on city streets due to the long winter, and delays due to the cold spring, City of Kelowna street sweeping efforts have experienced some starts and stops this year.

Sweepers will continue to operate 20 hours a day to clean nearly 1,650 kilometres of roadways and bike lanes with anticipated completion by mid-May, the city says.

Residents can help out by moving vehicles off the road so as not to impede the sweepers. Sweeping sand and debris from sidewalks and boulevards into gutters also helps out.

Signs will be put up at least 24 hours before sweeping begins in your neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, spring pothole repairs are also taking longer as freeze-thaw patterns have created an above average number of road craters.
