Jailbird freed by hockey

You know you're in trouble when the Mounties show up at your place of business and formally charge you, place you in cuffs, and put you in the back of a cruiser.

The worst part is the "perp walk." I now know why some notorious criminals go to great lengths to hide their faces. My saving grace was at least I had my shirt on!

Of course, being arrested to help raise funds for a great charity and spend a few hours frantically calling anyone you can think of (who you don't owe money to) is very different than what a real criminal goes through.

For example, I was able to have a nice chat with the officers who drove me to the "slammer" and my court date with "Judge Hang 'em High." He was lovely.

The other great thing about getting arrested in Kelowna's annual Jail & Bail event was reconnecting with old friends (who have money) and milking co-workers for cash!

In the end, it was the hockey community that came through, big time, for me.

Patrick Sullivan with Laconic Consulting rolled in and saved the day, dropping $500 right off the hop and then gave me the opportunity to raise $500 more if I could answer a few hockey questions.

Patrick tested my hockey knowledge, and with a little help from my friends (Madison Erhardt and Mr. Googles) I got all five skill-testing questions correct.

I didn't know Olaf Kolzig was an Island boy!? I did get Shea Weber and Josh Gorges as B.C. boys though.

The other great thing was learning about the people behind the charity Cops For Kids and all the good they do.

If you want to help, the cause is excellent and worthwhile. So much so that I have volunteered to ride with the tour next fall.

Thanks to all of you who helped set me free. Clearly, Castanet cares!
