Police in Lake Country eventually stopped a fleeing driver after he hit a police officer in Kelowna.
About 10 a.m., police responded to a report about a man asleep behind the wheel with the engine running, in Kelowna's Wilden neighbourhood.
When an officer knocked on the window to wake the driver, the man sped off, striking the officer with the side of the vehicle. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle was eventually intercepted in Lake Country, after a 10-minute pursuit that included deployment of a spike belt and ended when the driver collided with a marked police vehicle.
The fugitive's vehicle ended up in a ditch, but the man continued to flee on foot. He was arrested after a short foot pursuit into the bush.
The driver faces potential charges of dangerous driving, fleeing from police and assaulting a police officer.
