Ciderfest around corner

The Okanagan Cider Festival returns April 28.

Hosted this year at Wards Cider in Kelowna, the fun runs from 1 to 5 p.m.

Up to as 20 cideries will be pouring their products, and guests can enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, live bluegrass music with Viper Central, and a selection mobile food vendors.

The recent explosion in the popularity of cider has seen new craft cideries starting up all over B.C., many of which will be represented at the festival.

Wards, which is also the home of The View Winery, is located at an orchard where the family first put down roots a century ago.

Five generations later, the family business still operates out of a historic apple packinghouse on Kelowna’s southeast bench.

Wards is introducing two new ciders this summer. A sangria cider, bringing cider apples together with wine grapes, and a hopped cider called Frostbite.

Tickets are available at Kelownatickets.com.
