Celebrating women

The world is celebrating international women's day today. Several events are going on across the Okanagan today.

The Okanagan College Students’ Union will be holding their annual International Women’s Day events. This is a celebration for Okanagan College students, faculty and staff to participate in. “March 8th is a global day celebrating the cultural, political, social and economic achievements of women. It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace,” said Alex Starker, Kelowna Campus Council member of the Okanagan College Students' Union.

The event will be highlighted with the Okanagan College Students’ Union giving out cupcakes and t-shirts to celebrate while providing information for students on the importance of women’s contributions to society through fun activities. That goes Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Okanagan College Kelowna Campus, Centre for Learning, Library.

Olympian Laura Brown will also be sharing her journey at the RBC's International Women's Day luncheon at the Hotel Eldorado.

Brown won Bronze at the Rio summer Olympics in and she has been a mainstay on the women's track cycling endurance team.

RBC will also be making a donation to Minerva BC in support of the WE for SHE NextGen leaders program in Kelowna.

That event starts at 11:30 a.m.
