Suspect still at large

UPDATE 12:11 p.m.

Still not many answers on an incident at a Kelowna coffee shop late Wednesday night.

Kelowna RCMP tell Castanet they are continuing the investigation but so far the suspect remains at large.

The incident happened last night just before 9:30 p.m., at a local coffee shop located in the 1900 block of Harvey Avenue.

Police now know that the victim, who later fled to a nearby business to place the 911 call, was alone and in the process of closing the coffee shop for the evening when the robbery occurred.
 
The lone suspect was described to police as a skinny Caucasian male, approximately 6 feet tall, last seen wearing dark clothing, with baggy pants, a hood, and a black wool mask. He reportedly fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In spite of using the RCMP Police Dog Services to assist with the search, the suspect was not apprehended.

“Although weapons were not used in the crime, police have been told that the suspect utilized physical force to restrict the victim’s movements,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “The victim who appeared uninjured was assessed at the scene by emergency paramedics.”

UPDATE: 10:55 p.m.

Police have confirmed they do not have a suspect in custody in relation to the incident at Mom's Grind Coffee Shop Wednesday evening. 

Officers were seen interviewing a woman in an ambulance in the parking lot and others inside Panago Pizza, located two doors down from the coffee shop.

Additionally, police have been seen nearby at the Apple Bowl and near Springfield and Burtch Roads, presumably searching for someone. 

While the specifics of the incident is unknown, it was initially reported as an assault.

ORIGINAL: 10:35 p.m.

There's a large police presence Wednesday night at Mom's Grind Coffee House in Spall Plaza, after an assault was reported at the coffee shop. 

Four police vehicles and an ambulance are in the parking lot at 10:30 p.m., near Enterprise Way and Hardy Street, and an officer and a police dog unit were seen inside the coffee shop. 

A woman is inside the ambulance and it appears police are interviewing her. 

The specifics of the incident are unclear at this time, but it was initially described to emergency crews as an assault. 

Several police cars were also seen nearby at the Apple Bowl, but it's unclear if their presence is related to the incident at Spall Plaza.
