Trapped deer freed

While the Okanagan Sun's spring training camp is still a ways away, nine deer seemed eager to start the season, Wednesday morning.

The City of Kelowna was notified on Twitter at 10 a.m. about several deer stuck inside the fully fenced off Apple Bowl arena. They had been there since at least 7 a.m.

The city responded just after 11 a.m. to find nine deer stuck inside the closed sports field.

City staff said the fence around the field is only about four feet high at the north end of the field, near Bernard Avenue, and adult deer can jump up to eight feet high.

Staff opened up a gate and herded the trapped ungulates back to freedom.
