Serwa concussed in crash

A tough weekend for Kelowna's Olympic Gold Medalist Kelsey Serwa.

She wasn't able to compete as the World Cup Ski Cross season resumed in Sunny Valley, Russia on Saturday.

Serwa posted on Instagram that she's suffered a minor concussion after crashing into the safety netting on the course.

Serwa had been tied for sixth place in the standings with best friend and Canadian teammate Brittany Phelan.

Phelan made her move on the final jump passing Swiss skier Fanny Smith who finished third.

World Cup leader Sandra Naesland topped the podium.

With the DNF Serwa dropped to 7th place with 344 points, Phelan ascended to 3rd in the standings with 539 points, behind Smith and Naeslund.

They will wrap up the season in Megeve, France March 17 before the Canadian team returns home for the Canadian championships at Red Mountain in Rossland, March 21 to 24.

The concussion is the latest medical issue for the 28-year old who is suffering from arthritis and has had three knee surgeries.
