$45 K targeted for Mission

Kelowna's Gospel Mission is coming off a tough and expensive winter and is hoping a fundraising event can level up the coffers headed into the spring.

Strides to End Homelessness will feature a five- or 10-kilometre walk or run Saturday afternoon, starting at 3 p.m.

"We serve 600 meals a day and our 90-bed shelter has been full all winter, residents staying at the shelter are also given counselling to help with finding work, addictions and any other issues they may be facing," said Sonja Menyes director of development and manager of volunteers for the mission.

The organization hopes to raise $45,000 dollars for the event, with fund going back to support core programming.

People can still take part either by arriving around 2:45 at the Mission at 259 Leon Ave. or online.

The opening ceremonies begin at 3 p.m. with the walk/run starting at 4 p.m. A light supper of soup, provided by Earl's restaurant, will be served at the end of the event.
