Soldier returns home

Madison Erhardt

Kelowna soldier Wade Peters has been missing his family for almost a full year.

On Wednesday afternoon, the long wait came to an end.

"He has been away for over seven months now. We are so excited, it's time. He was in South Sudan for a deployment tour. The boys are so excited, they miss their dad so much," said wife Jeniliee Peters.

Jeniliee, along with her three young sons, were at YLW anxiously awaiting her husband's arrival.

"He flew in late Tuesday to Edmonton to go through his checks and make sure he is cleared. Then he hopped on a plane and is now headed home," said Captain Jeff Daley.

Wade Peters was greeted with running hugs from his boys and tears and a warm embrace from his wife.

"I'm looking forward to just being with them and being back in Kelowna again," Peters said. "You really learn to appreciate everything that you have here, especially being in a place like South Sudan."

Peters said he is looking forward to eating some Subway and seeing a few Rockets games with his family.
