New tack for Right to Life

A Kelowna organization more well known for its sometimes controversial billboards has taken up fundraising for Kelowna General Hospital's perinatal unit.

The Kelowna Right to Life Society, a high-profile anti-abortion group that regularly protests outside the hospital and along Highway 97 has launched a campaign to purchase a fetal monitor for the unit.

The group has partnered with the KGH Foundation to raise $7,000 for the purchase of a new wireless monitor.

Fetal monitors are used to detect issues with the baby during labour. Doctors can monitor contractions and the baby's heart rate throughout the delivery process.

The wireless monitors allow mothers to be more comfortable and mobile during delivery. Studies suggest mothers who walk around and stay active at the beginning of labor, have shorter, less risky deliveries.
