Feisty shoplifter collared

Public tips led to the arrest of a combative shoplifter in Kelowna.

On Jan. 10, just after 4 p.m., a store loss prevention officer witnessed a man stealing vitamins and batteries from a store on Harvey Avenue.

When the officer approached the man, he turned combative.

“Valuable tip information from members of the community contributed to the advancement of this investigation, to the point police could seek charge approval in the matter,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

The suspect has been identified as Mitchell Jakku, 33, of Kelowna.

Arrest warrants were issued on Feb. 1, and Jakku has since been charged with assault and theft under $5,000.

He is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
