Seconds from death

Madison Erhardt

Kurt Jory lost one-third of his blood in a frightening on-ice hockey incident nine years ago.

But today he's alive, and urging everyone to donate blood.

Jory had his jugular vein severed by a skate blade while playing in goal for the Brock University hockey team.

He was seconds away from death in the freak accident – but survived, thanks to blood donors.

Jory now shares his story to motivate others to give.

"I was a perfect example of a heathy 21 year old. I thought I would never need blood. That all changed in a moment. But, thankfully for me, there were people to help me out," he said Thursday in Kelowna.
