Charged with child luring

A former Kelowna man is in police custody in Alberta after allegedly luring and attempting to sexually assault a young boy.

Jonathan Karl Bruenig, 34, has been charged following the alleged incident in Grande Prairie.

He was arrested last week and charged with offences including child luring and making, possessing and distributing child pornography.

Police say Bruenig posed as a teenage girl online to lure teenage boys.

During a press conference Wednesday, Cpl. Dave Knight said Bruenig was apparently using photos and names of innocent third parties to construct personas on Facebook.

Photos, and videos were shared, but Knight wouldn't say what was done with those images.

Police have identified two victims, and it's anticipated there will be more victims and charges.

Investigators with Alberta's child exploitation unit say the suspect has been involved with a number of junior hockey teams, and they are working with other police agencies to investigate similar allegations in B.C., the Northwest Territories and Australia.
