Greens rally the troops

BC Green Party politicians will muster behind their candidate in the Kelowna West byelection this week.

Leader Andrew Weaver and MLAs Sonia Furstenau and Adam Olsen will visit the Okanagan this week to campaign for Robert Stupka. They'll also host a pair of townhall meetings and a rally.

The public events include a townhall on the future of the Okanagan, Thursday, 7-9 p.m. at the Coast Capri Hotel, a second townhall Friday on outdoor recreation and conservation, 7-9 p.m. at the Westbank Community Centre, and a "SuperGreen" rally on Saturday at the Laurel Packinghouse, from 1 to 2 p.m.

“West Kelowna and the Okanagan need to be heard in Victoria. I’ve already been to the riding to campaign earlier this month and this time, I am coming with the rest of my caucus to demonstrate our commitment to this region," Weaver said in a press release.

“During our time in the region, we will lead important conversations on foreign speculation in our housing market, the importance of the tech sector to this region’s economy and the need for a comprehensive wildlife management plan in B.C. While largely ignored by the other parties, our discussions with voters in West Kelowna will inform our work on these issues in the legislature.”

Stupka says: “The entire Okanagan region is represented by nine BC Liberal MLAs in opposition who refuse to work co-operatively with the other parties in the best interests of their constituents.”

The three Green MLAs hold a balance of power in the B.C. legislature with their support for the NDP.
