Dad, daughter remembered

The family of a father and daughter who were tragically killed during an ATV accident in Campbell River, said the two had a “pure zest for life.”

Bill Braden, 51, and his 15-year-old daughter Megan Braden were originally from Kelowna.

The two were out for a ride with another teen when they were attempting to cross Woods Creek on Vancouver Island when they were swept away by fast-moving waters. Bill and Megan were both killed on January 21.

The father and daughter shared kind hearts, a dry wit, a love for the outdoors, a great sense of adventure and pure zest for life.

“Bill and Megan were both incredible people, loved by all who knew them – full of  humour, warmth and a sense of fun,” states their obituary. “Their presence on this earth will be sorely missed by many.”

Bill was a civil engineer with City of Kelowna.

The family said this is an unimaginable loss for their family and their lives are forever changed.

“Our hearts are with Bill's wife Shana and their eldest daughter Kenzie, Bill's dad, stepmom and two sisters,” reads the statement from the family.

The entire family thanked the Search and Rescue crews, Campbell River RCMP, fire departments, the Canadian Coast Guard and all the people who helped.

“We are overwhelmed by the support and encouragement Shana and Kenzie are receiving from the community,” they said.

A public celebration of life for both Bill and Megan will be held on Feb. 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Campbell River Sportsplex.

The family asks in lieu of flowers for a donation to be made to Kenzie’s Post Secondary education fund as she will be graduating in June to pursue a career in nursing. Coastal Community Credit Union and deposit to: Account 100023473174, Transit no.  15210, Institution no. 809.
