Snowy delays at YLW

UPDATE: 10:50 a.m.

Snowfall is causing slight delays at Kelowna International Airport.

YLW spokesperson Neil Drachenberg said things are not looking too bad.

“There is no closures for snow, a few delays because of deicing and clearing the snow off the aircraft,” he said.

The worst delay at YLW on Sunday was 40 minutes.

Drachenberg is reminding travellers to check their flight times and arrive 90 minutes prior to their flight.

A handful of flights are delayed at Kelowna International Airport on Sunday as snow falls over the Okanagan Valley.

At least six flights have been delayed from departing YLW and four flights arriving to Kelowna have been delayed.

Enviornment Canada has issued a heavy snowfall warning for the North Okanagan, Shuswap, Columbia's and North Thompson on Sunday saying 15 to 25 cm is expected.

"Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected over north and central Okanagan by end of tonight," states the alert. "Fifteen to 30 cm of snow can be expected by Monday for the Columbias and Shuswap region."

Travellers in Kelowna described the roads as slippery and blanketed with fresh snow. 

WestJet 3321 to Vancouver, WestJet 3224 to Edmonton, WestJet 3323 to Vancouver, Central Mountain Air 730 to Prince George, Air Canada 1185 to Vancouver and WestJet 3325 to Vancouver are all delayed.

"Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions," said Environment Canada.
