Polar dippers brave cold

Several hundred people took to Okanagan Lake in less than ideal conditions for the Canadian New Year's Day tradition – the Polar Bear Dip.

Those who braved the -10 C conditions lined up along Tugboat Bay Beach in Kelowna for the thrill and chill.

The recurring theme for most who decided to dip was "Because I'm Canadian."

The annual dip took place at events across the Okanagan, including in Penticton, Vernon and Oyama.

The Kelowna event was a fundraiser for CRIS Adaptive Adventures. The Community Recreational Initiatives Society is a charitable organization that uses adaptive equipment to provide outdoor recreation opportunities for people with disabilities.
