Okanagan powder heaven

While the cold weather in much of the East is hurting the ski business, here in the West conditions couldn't get much better.

Big White reports seven centimetres of new snow in the last 24 hours and a 160 cm base.

Silver Star's website shows nine cm of new snow and 138 cm base, while Apex indicates it has had six cm of new snow in the past 24 hours with a base of 124 cm.

Temperatures Friday mid-morning were hovering between -7 and -10 C in the region.

Michael J. Ballingall, senior vice-president with Big White, predicts Saturday could be the busiest ski day of the season so far.

"With all the kids out of school and with the resort as full as it is, once we get 20 centimetres of snow, everyone is going to want to go skiing, so word to the wise – get here early."

More snow is in the forecast for the next 24 hours, and daytime temperatures are expected to range up to -10 C until next Tuesday.
