Skating on the streets

There is a new way to travel in Kelowna.

A man was captured skating on the streets of Kelowna in a video recently posted to Facebook.

Kelowna videographer Aaron DeSilva filmed the truly Canadian video on Christmas Day.

“The past week I’ve noticed the streets have been freezing so we’ve been talking about going out skating on them,” he said.

“Christmas morning, after opening presents, we decided to do it and make a video.”

The video, which has been viewed over 19,000 times since it was posted on Dec. 25, was filmed on McInnes Avenue, just off Sutherland Avenue.

“Most Canadian Christmas ever,” posted DeSilva.

A bearded man dressed in flannel and a toque, Kevin Inch, is seen striding down the street with his hockey skates on.

DeSilva said he only tripped up once and there was very little concrete exposed on the street.

“I included one little trip up in there just for fun ... he killed it, he did a great job,” he said.

Maybe in the future Kelowna will adopt skating lanes instead of bike lanes.
