Fundraiser's a real drag

A Kelowna production company has united with the local drag community for a fundraising show in support of LGBTQ+ youth.

The show, called We Care: A Christmas Special, will take place tonight at the Laurel Packinghouse. All proceeds will be donated to Etcetera, a youth group that lost funding from the Living Positive Resource Centre in November.

The group provides weekly drop-in sessions to give LGBTQ+ youth a safe, supportive space.

Dustyn Baulkham, executive producer of Rebellious Unicorns Production Company, which organized the show, said when he heard funding had been cut, he knew he had to act.

"While we know that the youth are resilient, strong and can overcome many obstacles, we recognize that programs like this require substantial support, and we are thrilled to bring the community together in support of our youth," Baulkham said.

Seven drag queens and kings will hit the stage, and Brightside DJs will provide music.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for drinks, and performances begin at 9 p.m. Tickets are by donation at the door or in advance online, for a minimum of $15.
