182 new daycare spaces

The provincial government will spend more than $1.1 million to create 182 new daycare spaces in the Central Okanagan.

The announcement, earlier this week, is part of a $33 million investment by the province covering 91 communities.

In the Central Okanagan, the NDP government will be providing more than $925,000 for 132 spaces.

Those spaces will be spread over four separate programs.

These include:

  • Creative Advantage Childcare Inc. - $100,000 for 16 multi-age spaces at its KLO location.   
  • First Lutheran Church of Kelowna - $345,000 for 56 spaces. 24 for infants and toddlers, and 32 for children aged three to five years at Willowstone Preschool and Child Care Centre.   
  • Luann Early Education Inc. - $148,596 to create 20 spaces. 12 for infants and toddlers and eight for children aged three to five years at CEFA Early Learning.   
  • The Okanagan Montessori Elementary School Society is receiving $334,000 to create 40 spaces. 12 for infants and toddlers and 28 for children aged three to five years.   

In Lake Country, the New Beginnings Early Learning Centre is being granted $215,000 for 50 spaces.

Twenty of those are for infants and toddlers, and 30 for children ages three to five.
