Growing like "weeds"

A major cannabis producer has set up shop in Kelowna, and is promising to open a series of production facilities over the next couple of years that will bring hundreds of jobs to the city.

Cannatech just received a license from the federal government to produce medical marijuana, but with its eyes set on the soon-to-be-legal commercial market, the company is planning to put its "flagship" operation in Kelowna.

“We have very, very big plans to expand our capacity in Kelowna, whereby we’ve already acquired (several) properties to expand at a number of new facilities over the next 12-18 months,” Tony Giorgi said.

Giorgi said those facilities will mean hundreds of thousands of square feet of production space, and hundreds of jobs in Kelowna.
