Tommies finalists revealed

Some of the Central Okanagan building industry’s finest got the nod this week, when the Canadian Home Builders Association released its list of Tommie Awards silver finalists.

Recognizing building excellence in 39 different categories this year, the Tommie awards celebrate the achievements of the local building industry over the past year and a half.

"The Tommie Awards celebrate the achievements of our building industry… showcasing their vision, talent and commitment, setting the standard of excellence for our industry,” says Kevin Santos, the 2018 Tommie chair.

According to Marika Luczi, the executive officer at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, more than 60 companies submitted projects to the 2018 Tommies judging committee.

The three judges on the panel--whose identities are always kept a strict secret--were flown in from out of town, and spent three days touring the entrants and grading the projects.

“They go through all the photos, all the marketing materials, all the budgets--and then they narrow it down,” Luczi says.

As many as five finalists are chosen for each building category (the judges don’t know which company is behind which projects), and the winners are announced at the Tommies Gold Gala.

This year’s gala will take place Jan. 27, at the Delta Grand Hotel in Kelowna. Luczi says tickets are already 80 per cent sold out, so anyone interested in attending should snap theirs up quick.

A complete list of all the Silver Finalists is available on the Canadian Home Builders Association website.
