Kelowna's Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday was celebrated around the globe, and Kelowna celebrated the day with some holiday cheer.

Christmas carols were sung as local non-profit organizations gathered outside City Hall.

"It's really important to celebrate this day, especially after the last few days have been about consumerism. It's great to recognize the true reason for the season – and that's giving back to the community," said Mayor Colin Basran.

Giving Tuesday, a global day of generosity, is in its fifth year, with thousands of partner organizations and millions of Canadians taking part.

“On Giving Tuesday, we look forward to meeting up with our community partners,” said Helen Jackman, executive director of United Way Central/South Okanagan.

More than 6,000 Canadian charities, businesses and community groups used the day to help make the world a better place.

“Giving Tuesday gives us an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of the giving season and thank our donors and volunteers for all they do to support community,” Jackman added.
